Day 3 Summary

Greetings from the Dead Sea:

We started the day with a sunrise swim in the Dead Sea. We were staying at the Marriott and it was very nice. A man from Yemen recommended that we cover our bodies with mud first. The mud comes from the bottom of the Dead Sea and includes salt and other minerals that are supposed to be good for you.
As we expected, we floated high in the water due to a very high salt concentration (33%).

Next, we went to the Jordanian side of the Jordan river to the spot where they believe that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Jay Strack baptized us all. It was an incredible experience.

We said goodbye to our Jordanian friends to began our entry into Israel. Due to the incredibly tight security, it took us 4 hours to make the crossing. One of our students had a name that caused concern. They held her for questioning for over an hour.

We finally made it through security and boarded a new bus for Qumran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qumran) - the place where they found the Dead Sea Scrolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Sea_scrolls).

We took a lovely drive to our hotel in Nazareth where we enjoyed a nice dinner. After dinner, we had a leadership session where Jay Strack contextualized the events of our past few days.

We are all excited about the sites of tomorrow!
